PROLOUGE
At the sound of the alarm blaring suddenly
and loudly through their underground base, Masicus charged over to the hub and fixed
his eyes on the large screen that held all the information, one hand on the
chair Jerek sat on.
“What is it?” he asked Jerek.
“Collosals.” Jerek replied jerkily as his
fingers flew to different keys on one of the five keyboards he had in front of
him. “That’s the third time this week. They must have picked up our Scent by
now, Mas.”
Masicus cursed and looked at the next screen with
a video reading of the ground above them. It was dark with a dampening of brown
while toxic rain fell form the dark skies above; just as it always was. Blackened
and abandoned buildings, half collapsed, occasionally came into sight as the reading
shifted through each device they had set up around the hundred metre radius. Olivia
Ryn, Kassd None and Sphyc Rixx came running into the room from the entrance
behind the two and quickly joined them around the screens and Jerek.
“Shut the alarms up.” Olivia said. “We’ve been
alerted.”
“Oh right, sorry.” Jerek pounded a hand on a
small sphere in front of him and the blaring sounds stopped as well as the
flashing red lights turning the scene black to a dull blue colour again. That
was how the base always looked all the time; dark, depressing and very
futuristic, overloaded with advanced technological equipment.
“Where are they?” Kassd asked Jerek.
“I’m getting coordinates…now…” he muttered,
the keys he tapped becoming faster and faster by the second. “About a thousand
kilometres away from sector one. Above ground.” He said after the typing had
stopped.
“Are they approaching?” Sphyc asked.
“Um, not yet.” Jerek replied, his fingers
starting to fly to keys again. “But they don’t seem to be moving.”
“Alert us the moment something happens.”
Masicus instructed him. “Movement, more fleets, anything.”
“OK.” Jerek said after a pause. “And how would
you like me to alert you?”
Masicus shrugged.
“Alarms?” he suggested. Jerek nodded and
pressed his hand against the alarm which sent the ringing and lights back on
echoing around the base.
“What?” Masicus asked. “What happened.” Jerek
slowly turned in the seat he was in as more and more flashing dots appeared on
the screen.
“Seventy more fleets just broke into the
timeline.” Jerek said slowly. Masicus turned to Kassd.
“Get the Summon.” He said quickly. “Bring in
someone from the old times carrying any kind of weapon.”
Kassd nodded and hurried off, Masicus charging
after him.
“Keep us informed!” he yelled back at Jerek as
Olivia muttered something to him. They passed through the entrance and turned
into a long corridor. The alarms shut off but the lights continued to flash
red. Kassd and Masicus turned into the last door along the corridor and found
themselves surrounded by large and complicated machines. Kassd strode over to
the largest one at once and begun jabbing in letters with the notepad in front
of it.
“Who’s coming?” Masicus asked as a blinding
blue light slowly started to build up in the machine and started to fill the
room.
“Someone.” Kassd replied before the light consumed
them and a muffled yell of fright shot out from inside the machine.
Slowly the light dimmed and when they looked
back at the machine, a young boy of fifteen stood behind the glass, shielding his
eyes and carrying a small dagger.
“A kid.” Masicus muttered as he ran from the
room again. “The greatest of allies.”
Sounds good Mist. I look forward to more.
